Novel solutions powered by innovation, like time-proven chemistries and precision agriculture techniques, are enabling farmers to make smarter decisions and grow crops more profitably and sustainably.
Committed to technology, innovation, and sustainability, AMVAC, an American Vanguard Company (NYSE: AVD), stands at the forefront of this agricultural revolution.
A solutions provider for global agriculture, AMVAC focuses on three major strategic pillars–– Proven Chemistries, GreenSolutions™, and Precision Ag technologies.
Proven Chemistries, a key piece of the ag-tech puzzle, includes a wide selection of time-proven chemical solutions built by acquiring or licensing new and well-established product lines serving numerous high-value market niches.
Combined, these three pillars are poised to support most of the major needs of farmers and their trusted advisors.
Comprising over 130 biorational and specialty nutrition products, including BioWake
™, B Sure
®, and iNvigorate
®, GreenSolutions provides effective alternatives to traditional crop protection products. The diversified growth platform is designed to help farmers increase productivity in the face of an ever-changing climate.
The Precision Ag innovations include the SIMPAS
® system, the next evolution in prescriptive application, and Ultimus
® measure/record/verify technologies. The traditional chemistry, fertility, and biologicals intersect with the prescriptive application technologies in the portfolio of SIMPAS-applied Solutions
™ (SaS), which can be prescriptively applied in-furrow while planting, using AMVAC’s patented SmartCartridge
® container technology.
While in the pilot phase, Ultimus is an AMVAC technology with tremendous potential and is used extensively with SIMPAS and SaS within the company. It uses RFID tags on product containers, making it easy for farmers to verify what was applied, when, where, and at what rate because it captures the product information directly from the smart tag.
Farmers have been using prescriptions to apply fertilizer with variable rate applications for some time now, but the concept of prescriptively applying crop protection chemicals is still new to many. With SIMPAS, the AMVAC team is working to make it mainstream. Limiting application of products to only areas that have been identified by an agronomist as being most likely to produce a positive economic return on investment is something that every farmer understands, but they need help knowing where to apply, or more importantly, where not to apply.

“Combined, these three pillars are poised to support most of the major needs of farmers and their trusted advisors,” says Bob Trogele, chief operating officer and executive vice president at AMVAC.
One of the strongest examples of the benefits of SIMPAS is a farmer from Northeast Arkansas who was struggling with severe nematode infestations in some areas of his fields and sought AMVAC’s expertise. He experienced a yield increase of 79 bushels per acre in the problem areas without incurring a treatment expense in areas where the cost to treat those areas would have exceeded the value of any incremental yield that might have been gained. Untreated comparison blocks made it easy to do an ROI analysis to help guide the agronomist’s prescription development in the following year.
Farmers buy SIMPAS equipment from Trimble, a company that AMVAC shares a close relationship with. The SaS are sold through a traditional ag-chem distribution network.
On the Green Solutions side, AMVAC advises customers on navigating the increasingly complicated biological space. In many cases, discussions with its growers, retail partners, and manufacturing partners help shape what the product offering includes.
Over the past few years, the company has significantly strengthened its position in the biological marketplace through acquisitions and partnerships with companies like Agrinos and AgNova Technologies. The company is also bolstering its international presence, especially in Latin America.
As AMVAC expands the GreenSolutions portfolio and usage of Ultimus, it is poised to remain the preferred choice for farmers. Backed by groundbreaking products and an incredible team, the company is making a lasting impact in the agricultural sector.
